Scene 5

The Press- It was some what confusing to me, I understood that Lt. Edwards says, "You can't change the spots on a leopard" to the Press on page 38. Lt. Edwards is talking about Henry Reyna & what i believe that he is trying to say is that he doesnt believe that anyone can change the inner pachuco that he carries around with him. I believe that this quote is important to the entire story because it actually gives you a clue on how Lt. Edwards feels about Henry.

Question- Why is it that the press wants to know all about Henry Reyna?

  2. I love that quote "you can't change the spots on a leapord," because it's true. I think it's hard to change anyone because you're so accustomed to it, but it's possible. This quote is not necessarily a negative quote (it could be talking about a postivie quality) but I agree with you. Lt. Edwards uses it in a negative way to describe Henry.

In response to your question, I think THE PRESS wants to know everything about Reyna just so they could get some more dirt to use in their stories. With Reyna, THE PRESS can make an example out of all the zoot suiters.

  3. "you cant change the spots on a leopard" is true because it basically means that regardless the type of person Henry ( or anyone)is they wont change their inner personality. Our minds and way of thinking cannot be controlled by anyone. We might act like we have changed but we truly haven't. I think that this was what Lt. Edwards was trying to say about Henry. And everyone wants to know about Henry because the Press knows that Henry was the "mastermind" in the Sleepy Lagoon Murder and in the 38 St. Gang. Thats why i think that they keep asking him so many questions, and they don't leave him alone.
