Scene 7

Alice: I did enjoy this scene because it started to reveal the feelings that Henry and Alice had for eachother. "Its stupid for us to fight like this. I look foward to coming here for weeks. Just to talk to you, to be with you, to see your eyes." pg. 84, I thought this quote exposed alot of how Alice felt about Henry. Later on in the scene Henry then starts to show his feelings for Alice which i thought was crazy because Henry has a "girlfriend" back at home.

Question: Why do you think that Alice started to have feelings for Henry?

  1. I know!! I thought it was crazy also. I think it's about respect and Alice is showing none of this as she talks to Henry in this sweet-but-flirty way. Let's not even talk about what happens later on....

Alice might have feelings for Henry because of Henry's character. Although he is a stubborn character, he is also a strong one at that. He is not selfish and does anything to protect his loved ones. He assumes the role of a leader, which is what many look for in a partner.

  3. Hi all:

Sometimes the feelings we have for someone else tell us more about how we feel about ourselves. Chew on that one. :) Combine that with the idea that the opposite of love is not hate, but disinterest. Therefor, our powerful emotions are connected: Frustration is often linked with passion; love is often linked with rage... And Henry and Alice are set on a course of emotional upheaval.

They challenge each other. They make each other look at parts of themselves they would rather keep private or hidden. They see themselves in each other and it both repels and attracts them.

What do you think of all this?

  4. I agree! This was probably the best scene because it showed how both Alice and Henry felt about each other. I never thought they were going to end up together. It took me by surprise!

  5. I honestly beleive that Alice started to have feelings for Henry because, she was working with him and the boys, and she wrote to him, saw him constantly, and why wouldn't she get passionate about someone that she was really fighting for with blood, sweat, and tears. The romance was inevitable, yet they did push eachother around and tested eachother on various levels, but Henry fell for her because he was lonley and there wasn't anyone else visiting him like Alice was, so it just happend, but aside from everything I do beleive that thier small quicky romance had to do with the time spent together and the passionate fights they had.
